What we do

Take one or take the lot. Most of our work is a whole room rather than a single trade, and the price is the same either way — there is no premium for using us for everything.

Why it matters who does what

Renovations rarely fail on workmanship. They fail on order.

Take a bathroom. Four firms, all perfectly good at their trade, all booked separately.

  1. The plumber strips out and first fixes, then leaves.
  2. The electrician cannot come for nine days. Nothing can be boarded until he has.
  3. The tiler arrives to a room that was never tanked, because nobody quoted for it and each firm assumed another had.
  4. The plumber has to come back to second fix, and his next free slot is a fortnight away.
  5. Something does not line up, and each firm has a reasonable explanation involving one of the others.

Nobody did bad work. The job still took six weeks instead of two, and the tanking never happened.

We run it as one job with one person responsible for the order of it. The sequence is set before we start, the gaps between stages are ours to close rather than yours to chase, and there is nobody to point at when something does not line up.

One trade or all of them

None of this means you have to give us the whole job. Plenty of what we do is a single service — one gate, a floor, an EICR, a wardrobe.

And the rate does not change. We do not price a kitchen higher because you also want the flooring, and we do not price a single job as a premium because it is small.

We are also happy to slot in behind another contractor — fitting a kitchen after a builder has formed an opening, for instance. Tell us at the survey and we will plan around them.

Being straight with you

What we don’t take on

Anything structural

No extensions, loft conversions or garage conversions, and nothing needing planning permission, a steel beam or an engineer’s calculations. Work that waits months on approvals makes every other job on the books unreliable.

Boilers

Replacement, servicing and repair all sit with firms who do nothing else and carry the manufacturer approvals that go with it. We work around a boiler, not on it.

Emergencies

We are not a 24-hour call-out service. Running booked work with dates we keep is what makes the bigger jobs reliable, and the two models do not mix.

If your project needs any of the above, tell us anyway. We will say so early and point you towards someone who can help, rather than taking the enquiry and letting you find out later.

Common questions

About our services

Who actually turns up at my house?

The same people, job after job. Our trades are established self-employed specialists Sam has worked with over years of managing sites for housebuilders — which is exactly where you learn which joiner turns up on the day he said and which one does not. We are not ringing round for whoever is free this week, and you will not get a different face every morning. If something is not right afterwards, you ring the person who quoted it.

Is it cheaper to use you for everything?

Not automatically, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Where it does save money is in the gaps — no second visits to second fix, no waiting a fortnight for the next trade, no work redone because two firms assumed different things. On a full room that usually adds up to less than four separate quotes. On a single job it makes no difference at all, and you should just pick whoever does that trade best.

Can I use you for just one thing?

Yes, and plenty of people do — a gate, an EICR, a floor, a pair of wardrobes. Small jobs sometimes wait a week or two for a slot in your area so we are not making a special trip, and we will tell you that when we quote rather than leaving you wondering.

What if the job needs a trade you don’t have?

We tell you at the survey and work alongside whoever does. The two that come up most are structural openings and boiler changes — both outside what we take on, both straightforward to sequence around if we know early. What we will not do is start a job and discover it halfway.

Do you cover my area?

We work across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the surrounding towns, out to Leek, Stone, Stafford and Uttoxeter, and into the nearer Cheshire towns of Alsager, Congleton, Crewe and Macclesfield. The full list is on our areas we cover page — and if you are just outside it, ask anyway.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us roughly what you are planning and we will come and look. Free survey, fixed written quote, no obligation.
